Early Intervention

Early Intervention LogoEvery Child grows differently.  But for all children, there are stages of growth and development.  If a child is missing one of these steps, they may have a delay or be behind in an area of their development. Areas of development can include their language, how they think or process information, how they move, and how they interact with others.

If you have concerns or question about how your child is growing then Early Intervention is for you.

What is Early Intervention?

Early Intervention (EI), formally known as Help Me Grow, is a statewide system that provides coordinated early intervention services to parents of eligible children under the age of three with developmental delays or disabilities.

Early Intervention Services include:

  • Developmental evaluation and assessment to determine your child’s strengths and needs
  • Service Coordination (see below)
  • Individualized Service Plan (IFSP)
  • Family Support
  • Transition Services

What Is Service Coordination?

Service Coordination involves assisting families through finding and coordinating services and supports for families.  Service Coordinators support a family’s right to:

  • Develop a Service Plan (IFSP)
  • Keep track of progress
  • Address family needs
  • Locate additional resources

If you have concerns about your child's development, please call 1-800-755-4769 (GROW) to make a referral. Click on this link: http://ohioearlyintervention.org/referral

Why Work with a Child Who Is so Young?

80% of the brain is wired for learning by age three. The earlier you help a child, the easier and more important your efforts are. Did you know that the early experiences your baby or toddler has are shaping the way her/his brain will learn and react to life?  Early experiences last a lifetime! Investing in early childhood is one of the few investments that has been found to consistently provide a large positive return on investment.

Questionnaire

Interested in knowing more about where your child is in his/her development?  The Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) developmental screening is now available online.  This screening is free, short and easy to complete.   Once the screening is completed, someone from Help Me Grow Central Intake will contact you to discuss the results.
