Safe Communities
Greene County Safe Communities Coalition works to prevent injury through community action by addressing safety issues through initiatives involving engineering, enforcement and education. The coalition is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Administration through a grant from Ohio Department of Public Safety and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office.
The Ohio Department of Traffic Safety introduced the Safe Communities program to help:
- Decrease traffic injuries
- Increase safety awareness
- Decrease the amount of money spent on traffic-related injuries
- Increase the number of people involved in keeping communities safe
- The coalition is made up of a number of organizations from across Greene County and are always looking for new members.

Drive to Succeed
"'Drive to Succeed" is an Ohio grant-funded program to help teens complete driver training at an affordable cost! In Greene County, eligible students will be determined by age, financial need, recommendation letter, and essay submission. Members of the Greene County Safe Communities Coalition will review applications. Driver's education scholarships will be for in-person classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training through select driving schools. Applicants are responsible for paying a $50 fee to the identified school. Scholarships will be available as long as grant funding lasts. You will receive a notification from Greene County Public Health regarding your successful application. Questions? Please contact Loressa Gonyer. For additional information, see our announcement here.
