Cottage Food Operations
Description
A “Cottage Food Production Operation” is a person who, in the person’s home, produces food items that are not potentially hazardous foods (non-perishable), including bakery products, jams, jellies, candy, fruit butter, popcorn, no bake cookies, dry bakery mixes, and similar products. These foods must be labeled properly or they will be considered misbranded or adulterated. Note: For a complete list of allowed food products please reference to the links located below.
Licensure
Cottage food operations are exempt from licensing and inspection. However, all food products produced and packaged by a cottage food operation are subject to food sampling conducted by the Ohio Department of Agriculture to determine compliance with labeling regulations.
